Ossur C SprintFlex-Run™ for Distance

The Flex-Run™, by Ossur, is a custom foot module for sprinting, long distance running, and recreational sports. A lightweight foot, it provides efficient energy return, enabling the athlete to run further, and longer. Its vertical compliance reduces trauma to the residual limb, joints, and lower back, thereby providing more comfort to the athlete.

The Flex-Run is made from 100 percent carbon fiber, a material used extensively in the aerospace industry for its superior strength and flexibility. For more information on Ossur Flex-Run, and other Ossur products, visit www.ossur.com.

Liner Solutions for Upper Extremity Amputees

Willow Wood Alpha LinerOhio Willow Wood has new solutions for upper extremity amputees. The revolutionary lower-extremity Alpha Liners have been adapted for use by above-elbow and below-elbow amputees.

The new Alpha UE Liner surrounds a residual limb in a layer of skin-friendly, mineral-oil-based gel containing Vitamin E. The liner gently adheres to the skin to protect against abrasion and breakdown. The Alpha UE Liner is offered in a uniform, 3mm gel thickness and in three sizes. A unique oval-shaped umbrella allows for a comfortable fit.

Ohio Willow Wood’s new Mini G-Lock works extremely well with the Alpha UE Liner. The Mini G-Lock has a pin locking mechanism with pin seal. The design of this small lock allows a user to secure the locking pin in place at the nearest groove.

For more information about the Alpha UE Liner or the Mini G-Lock, ask your prosthetist, contact Ohio Willow Wood at 877.699.2574, or visit Ohio Willow Wood’s Web site at www.owwco.com.

New C-Leg® With Added Features Unveiled
Otto Bock C-Leg microprocessor knee

Otto Bock introduced a new version of the C-Leg microprocessor knee, which offers features designed to give wearers more independence.

Responding to suggestions from people who use the C-Leg and prosthetists who fit the C-Leg, the new features include:

A standing mode that gives wearers the ability to easily lock the C-Leg at a variety of flexion angles so patients can relax while standing

A handheld remote to switch between modes

Adapting Swing Phase Dynamics for slight adjustments to swing flexion resistances without the hassle of an office visit

In recognition of the C-Leg’s quality, it won the da Vinci award for exceptional design and engineering from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The award recognizes outstanding innovations that help people with disabilities.

“Our goal with these improvements was to raise the level of performance to the C-Leg that has been known for its quality and reliability. We’ve accomplished that with the added features, offering the patient more independence without compromising the stability they depend on,” said Kristen Knox, market manager – lower extremity prosthetics.

Otto Bock's Trias + FootOtto Bock’s Trias+ Foot Delivers Unique Design

Otto Bock offers the high functionality of carbon fiber feet specifically designed for moderate walkers. The new Trias+ combines creative modern design with innovative lightweight construction. With a design concept modelled from the natural human foot, the Trias+ not only looks great, but most importantly, provides exceptional walking function - easy rollover to reduce effort and conserve energy, improved gait symmetry, and a reduction of excessive forces on the contralateral limb.

The performance of the Trias+ has been verified through gait analysis. Biomechanical tests identify a similar rollover characteristic when comparing the Trias+ to the contralateral foot. As a result, the foot offers a secure, controlled action while improving amputee confidence and the ability to vary cadence. The superior gait characteristics of the Trias+ are a direct result of the unique dual spring elements incorporated into its design.

In addition to the outstanding function of the Trias+, the combination of footshell and cosmesis connection cap creates several advantages. It stabilizes the ankle region and eases the application of a cosmetic cover for the practitioner.

In today’s prosthetic market, lightweight construction, high functionality, and appealing design are features that users desire and are the concepts that went into creating the Trias+. And of course, as with all Otto Bock products, the 1C31 Trias+ had to pass rigorous durability testing, therefore, you can rely on a high level of reliability from every Trias+ foot.

Latest In Ossur’s Bionic Technology: Proprio Foot

The most recent addition to Ossur’s bionic product line is the Proprio Foot, the first motor-powered and artificially intelligent prosthesis for transtibial amputees. Developers say that it thinks and acts for itself. It is named the Proprio Foot because it provides artificial proprioception – the sense of where the limb is in space. When it is said that the Proprio Foot “thinks for itself,” that refers to the way it “learns” and responds to changing terrain. Patented artificial intelligence (AI) sorts out the information from the foot’s sensor technology and activates the most appropriate response for the next step. Then the AI transmits a constant stream of signals, and the technology delivers the desired action.

Ossur's Proprio FootThe Proprio Foot responds to changing terrain, transforms the approach to stairs and slopes (as well as level-ground walking), angles itself appropriately, and helps amputees to sit and stand up easily and more naturally.

Heel height can be changed easily and without impact on the alignment of the prosthesis. As a result, transtibial amputees get improved proprioception, more balance and symmetry, and less wear and tear on the back, hips, and knees.
