Soldier Ride 2006 to Raise Money
and Support for Wounded Military

A National Tour Team of wounded servicemen and women, and other members of the military, will be cycling cross-country in Soldier Ride 2006 to raise funds and public awareness for the needs of wounded soldiers still in hospital beds, and to inspire those with injuries that they can be physically active again.

Soldier Ride 2006 functions as both a physical and mental element in the rehabilitation process for many of the participating wounded service personnel by giving them the opportunity to fortify their bodies and to show them life still has much to offer, all while raising public awareness for the needs of all wounded soldiers.

Funds raised through Soldier Ride benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and the Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project and provide adaptive sports programming and recreation events for service members during their rehabilitation. Funds also provide comfort items, counseling, and rehabilitation to aid in the transition from hospital bed to an independent life.

The cyclers will begin their 4,000-plus mile cross-country trip at Montauk, N.Y., May 3, and will reach Camp Pendleton, Calif., by July 30. The ride is in 11 segments; most segments average approximately 400 miles, and take little more than a week to complete.

As they journey across country, the wounded soldiers and other members of the military welcome the local wounded and military to join them along the way, whether it be a few blocks, a few miles, or an entire segment.
