Director of Development

General Description

Maine Handicapped Skiing, a growing nonprofit organization and nationally recognized adaptive recreation program, seeks a dedicated candidate for the position of Director of Development. The Director of Development is responsible for the development and implementation of fund raising for Maine Handicapped Skiing through addressing potential sources of support including grants, individual and corporate sponsors and contributors; plans and executes the annual Ski-A-Thon fund raiser; manages relations with MHS donors, potential donors, corporations and other potential revenue sources. This position requires a person with an outgoing and engaging personality, an ability and comfort with fund raising, and a personal belief in the mission of MHS.

Qualifications include a college degree in marketing or related program; three years work experience in marketing or fundraising field; experience working with volunteers and non profit organizations preferred. A demonstrated skill in planning and coordinating special events; a successful background in fund development; strong organizational, planning, leadership and follow through skills; excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills; demonstrated public presentation abilities; strong computer skills in all aspects of Microsoft Office Software; valid Maine driver’s license, reliable transportation and willingness to travel; experience in and a passion for outdoor sports, including skiing or snowboarding, paddling and golf a plus.

Organizational Description

Founded in 1982, Maine Handicapped Skiing promotes year-round education and training for individuals with physical disabilities in order to develop skills and provide enjoyment through active recreation.  All programs are provided free of charge to participants.

Recreational activities include alpine and nordic skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing in the winter months and paddling, cycling and golf during the summer months.  Other programs include an alpine race team and Veterans/ No Boundaries.
