| All disabled racers
are encouraged to attend and will continue to benefit from
attending "disabled only" events. In addition to these events,
the qualification rules allow racers with disabilities to
work on their "point profile" by attending other USSA races.
|
- How do I become a member of USSA?
-
Check with the local ski club and/or
race team to get a membership application, or call USSA
at (801) 649-9090, ask for Membership, and have them send
you an application. Be sure to join as a racer with a
disability.
- What if I was a member in the previous
year?
-
If you have not received your membership
renewal, call USSA immediately at (801) 649-9090. Be sure
that they have you listed as a racer with a disability.
- Is there anything else I need from
USSA?
-
Yes!!! Competitors wishing to maintain
a point profile must purchase a competitor's license.
Masters or Junior racers, not wishing to have a point
profile and not wishing to attend USSA point races, can
purchase a license for their respective league. These
licenses are slightly cheaper and restrict your racing
to certain series of races.
- If I race on a Master or Junior License,
can I attend the U.S. Disabled Ski Championships?
-
Yes. See rule #4 in qualification criteria.
- How do USSA points work?
-
When you receive your competitor's points
license, you also receive 990 points in USSA's computer.
When you attend a USSA-scored race (either disabled or
nondisabled) and finish a complex process of who raced,
who finished, how may points they had and how far back
your result was, will be figured and, hopefully, you come
out of that event with something less than 990 points.
This new figure is averaged with your other previous best,
and a point standing is given to you in USSA's computer.
The better racer you become, the lower your points will
be and the earlier your start will be in future events.
- Do my points change after every race?
-
No. About every 30 days during the racing
season, USSA updates your file and changes your profile,
based on your race results. Point profiles are based on
your last two (2) best performances. You will be seeded
at races by your points, on the latest official USSA points
list applicable.
- Do my points change for every racing
discipline?
-
Yes. You will have a different profile
for each event, based on your past race results and frequency
of racing in this discipline.
- Can I go to the U.S. Disabled Ski
Championships if I only qualify in one event?
-
Yes! Qualification for the U.S. Disabled
Ski Championships is broken down to technical qualification
(Slalom and Giant Slalom) and speed qualification (Super
G and Downhill). You must qualify in one of the two (2)
disciplines in the technical category in order to race.
Additionally, you have to qualify in one of the two (2)
disciplines in the speed category in order to race in
those events. See rules #2 and #3 in qualification criteria.
- Do USSA points effect the handicapping
factors for overall results or class results?
-
No. USSA points and results are figured
separately and do not effect your final standing in class
results.
- Can I attend other races besides
the disabled races listed on the DS/USA SkiTour?
-
Yes!! You can attend other USSA sanctioned
races. These races will count towards your point profile,
just like the disabled races. For a schedule and information,
contact the USSA National Office at (801) 649-9090 or
your regional USSA office.
- Where can I purchase adaptive ski
equipment?
-
- You can check out the DS/USA Winter Sport
Resources section for adaptive ski resources and other sports
resources.
